FAQ

What is I/O?

In computing, input/output, or I/O, refers to the communication between an information processing system (such as a computer), and the outside world possibly a human, or another information processing system. [Source]

Then what is this site about?

It’s what we decided to name our netlabel. I/O has been around since mid-2006 providing free full length albums for download by different artists from around the world.

Who runs this website?

Marcus Gutierrez (Mark.Nine) and Tomas Borosko (Five Step Path) have been running the label since the launch in 2006. Marcus handles the website/promotions and Tomas handles all demo submissions and other miscellaneous tasks.

Are your releases really free?

Completely free. It won’t cost you a penny to download anything from the site. You don’t even have to create an account. We pay for the hosting for this website out of our pockets, so if you would like to help us out a bit, you can donate to keep us on the web! All music is released under the Creative Commons Music Sharing License 3.0 (More info). You’re free to distribute and share the music however you please, but you are not allowed to claim the music as your own.

What is version 1/2 catalogue?

Version 1 catalogue consists of our releases from 2006-2009. After a period of inactivity, I/O was reconstructed from the ground up and went full time active again at the start of 2010. Version 2 catalogue is everything from 2010 onwards.

Why are some of your releases missing?

Various reasons. Some artists have decided to pull their albums from the catalogue.

Where can I see your entire catalogue including missing albums?

If you’re interested, you can see the entire line up at the discogs website, however, you can’t download any of the albums from there.

What bit rate do your MP3s come in?

v0 MP3 | -V(number) where number is 0-9, 0 being highest quality, 9 being the lowest.
So in other words, the highest quality VBR setting currently offered. You can find more information here.
If MP3s don’t float your boat, our version 2 catalogue (and some of re-released V1 material) offers FLAC as an option.

What are these FLAC files and how do I play them?

FLAC is a lossless audio format that acts like .zip compression for audio files. No quality is lost in the process, which makes it perfect for archival purposes and listening to music in a higher fidelity than MP3s. While FLAC support is growing across portable media players, it still isn’t as popular as the lossy MP3 format, which is nearly used on every player and software. For more information on the FLAC format and a list of programs for playback, click here.

How do I stream your music?

You need Flash player installed to stream music from the player on the release page. If you do not have it, you can grab it here. Simply select the song from the list and depending on your connection speed, should start playing within a few seconds. Stop, pause, forward, rewind and volume controls are right underneath the track list.

Where can I find more information about a particular artist?

Through their artist profiles. A short bio, pictures, external links and contact information are provided. Send these guys a friendly e-mail. They’ll appreciate it!

Are you guys related to Unnamed Label?

Yes! Unnamed Label was started by the same group of people that started I/O Netlabel back in 2006 with the addition of some new members. The two websites are separated but at the same time closely linked together.

Are you guys accepting demos?

Yes! Send your music our way if you want us to release it. Please have a full album ready (EP or LP). No links to social websites please. You can find more information under “Demos” on the contact page.
